I did what I asked my mother not to do for me...

My son's pediatrician is awesome. Little man gets sick, he gets in right away. Admittedly, sometimes he looks at me like I'm paranoid, but I still like him. He became my daughter's doc. But I remember when I was growing up telling my mother that I didn't like having a male doctor, and begging her to change me to a female. She never did. And as soon as I was old enough to refuse to go to the doctor without getting smacked, I stopped going to him.
I'm wondering if I should change my daughter from that office. His practice has a female doctor, but the times that Little man has had to see her because his doc isn't in, I didn't like her. I don't know what I should do, because I do feel that a female should have a female doctor unless she feels comfortable...
I don't know.

Ay mija! stop your whining already, just take him to the DOCTOR, and just being curious, what if the male doctor you so desperatly seek turns out to be gay?

I think you'll have plenty of time to think about this. Maybe what you can do for your daughter is wait until she tells you herself and then respect her wishes. Wouldn't that mean more to her then then to just do it now b/c of what "might" happen years down the road?

Plus, it's something you can hold over her head..."I can't believe you did such-and-such after I went through all that trouble of finding you a new doctor! You should be ashamed of yourself!"

See? Instant guilt-trip when you need it.

I had a male pediatrician until I went to college, it never bothered me. My kids have a male ped.
I would wait & see what your daughter says.

Why didn't you want a male doctor?

I'm not sure I would do anything now. If your daughter ever starts to protest, you are in a position to honestly tell her you know how she feels and ease her fears.

I think it's more important now for you to feel comfortable with the doctor and trust him/her.

We used the same "male" pediatrician for both our kids, son and daughter. Honestly, I never even thought about it, because he was the best one around.

Interesting notion. The biggest factor in the decision should be is the quack competent?

I think for right now...a male doctor for your baby girl is quite alright. I honestly think that you could get away with this set up for many years at least until she hits 5 or even 6. Then if you want to look for a female doctor for her I would.
Right now it's more important for you to be comfortable with the person who treats and looks after your kids and it sounds like you are with this particular doc.
